01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City Gunnar is a lean, young RHP/2B that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best at 2B for the next level. Defensive grade are slightly above average as he shows smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying soft / clean hands as he makes the routine plays. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more and play through balls more and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Leach shows a squared setup with rhythm and displays slightly above average hitting / power grades. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he learns to keep his hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-74 and hides the ball well. Breaking ball displays flat shape with gradual break. He throws a knuckleball that displays downward tumbling action. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable as he wants to get better. With 3 years to further develop, Gunnar has abilities with time and room to improve.
