Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gustaf looks like an ace on the bump with the versatility to contribute in other areas. He works downhill to the hitter to unleash his deadly arsenal of a 91mph fastball with run, two sharp breaking balls with downward angles and a very deceptive changeup with run. He is extremely difficult to hit and racks up the strikeout numbers with his four plus pitches and impeccable command. He chips in playing a good 3B with active feet and a clean exchange. His lower half works well to get low to field and throws, making strong tosses across the diamond. He has pop to the pull side at the dish with strong hands and a fast bat through the zone. He makes consistent contact and the ball jumps off his bat as he shows feel for the barrel. Gustaf will be a weekend starter at the next level very soon.

02/28/2016 - College PREP - Sioux Falls, SD Gustaf is a solid RHP who will graduate in 2018 with a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, this righty throws a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works through a strong balance point and has smooth overall actions. FB ranges from 77-82 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains his arm speed and shows a feel for his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff displays as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Gustaf has an upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
