12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 McMillan showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Trumbull, CT. Arm strength has improved with accuracy / carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in playing through balls while presenting hands more out front to improve his defensive grade. At the plate, Harry shows a balanced, open stance. He makes consistent contact through a long swing path as he needs to work to keep his hands inside the ball to improve hitting grades. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load more and use his lower half.

01/14/2011 - Pirate City Spring Training - 2011 Harry is a young (2014) two-way player at 2B plus on the mound with an average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Feet are active and show life as he plays through the ball with his body. He shows athletic actions but needs to work on presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Offensively, McMillan shows a balanced stance allowing hands to work through a level swing path. He needs to work to maintain balance through the swing and utilize lower half more. At the event, he was 2 for 4. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 63-68 mph with sink and running action. He is aggressive with his fastball, locating to both sides of the plate. Off speed pitches are well below average needing further development to be quality pitches. With 3 years to further, Harry has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
