01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament A rare 4-time Under Armour Pre-Season All-America selection, Hayden has made himself into an outstanding prospect. He now possesses the rare combination of speed and power on a Major League body (6'3”/215). In Arizona, Hayden's 60 time was an impressive 6.68 (quite a change from the 8.04 he ran the first time we saw him as an 8th grader). He's an explosive athlete (9'2” broad jump) and the ball jumps off his bat with present power to the pull side (99 mph exit velocity). Instincts are also present in Hayden which allows him to translate the tools into game play. Overall, this is a skill set that is hard to find and should garner Hayden quite a bit of attention this season.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Hayden continues to show strong ability against stiff competition, after showcasing in his 3rd consecutive Under Armour Baseball Factory Pre-Season All America. Since last year, his frame and ability to hit with plus power has moved him over the the hot corner. With the glove, he is still subtle and moves well laterally with an ability to make the play deep down the line with his present arm strength. Offensively, he was strong to get down to contact and took aggressive hacks. He was direct with his barrel and accelerated through the zone with good extension out in front. He hit a triple and an RBI double to deep right center field in two of his AB's, drew a pair of walks, and lined out to centerfield. On the hill, he showed new feel for a third pitch - a CH with good run from 74-75. His FB sat from 80-83, and he spun his 12/6 CB with decent break from 70-71. He had an upbeat tempo, and repeated his delivery. In all - Hayden is an exciting player that still has another year and a half left to add consistency and strength to be an immediate impact guy at the next level.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Hayden is a sophomore SS/RHP with a good frame - 6'2/200 lbs. Offensively, he can swing it with excellent bat speed and barrel accuracy. He has good rhythm and shows very good pull pop - finding the other side of the fence regularly. He is aggressive attacking balls in the zone and is strong through the swing. At short, he throws accurately from different arm slots and fields in front with soft/sure hands. On the bump, he is effortless to throw with good raw ability. He gets balanced and has fluid/free arm action. Currently, Hayden projects best as a hard hitting SS that could play 3B at the next level with his offensive prowess.

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Hayden is a young, tall SS/RHP that will graduate in 2016. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.20 60 time. Feet are active / athletic as he works to square balls up and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / clean but he needs to present more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Freeman shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the baseball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he learns to throw more strikes and build more arm strength. With 3 years to further develop, Hayden has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
