Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Hayden is a young player who has very good upside. In the infield, he has an athletic fielding position with effective footwork and soft/sure hands. He has a loose arm action and accurate throws with good life/carry. He can work on continuing to increase his arm strength and refine his backhand. He can also improve by understanding positioning based on situation and runners on base. On the mound, he's athletic with a controlled balance point and separating on time. His shoulders stay level throughout his delivery and he lands in line with his target before finishing in an athletic fielding position. He can work on making sure his front side doesn't fly open too early making his arm drag behind. He can also work on developing a balance point when he's in the stretch. At the plate, he is a switch hitter who does well on both sides of the plate. He has a smooth load and stride and his balance stays centered. He has explosive bat speed and his swing is short and on plane allowing him to consistently square the ball up. He can work on refining his left-handed swing and staying inside the ball. He can also focus on improving his lower half to maximize power. Overall, Hayden has a bright future with lots of potential as he continues to grow and improve.

03/10/2013 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Hayden is a young (2017 grad) 2-way player with good upside. As a shortstop, he shows some fluid actions and transitions nicely from catch to throw. His plays through balls well and has a feel for picking his hop. As his feet get quicker his range will improve. As a hitter, he has a level path and some natural rhythm. Normal maturation plus more lower half should lead to him hitting the ball with more authority in the near future. Hayden also shows well on the mound where he throws a low 70s fastball along with some off-speed pitches that show promise. His change has some arm side run and is thrown with good arm speed. Overall, this is a prospect that looks natural playing the game and should be a player to follow closely over the next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
