08/02/2011 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2011 Hector is a young MIF who graduates in 2014. He showed many similar skills as we've seen in his event at Cape Cod. Defensively, he has a accurate arm and clean exchange. He fields the ball deep and needs to get his body square and hands out in front. He tends to bend at his waist and needs to bend at his knees to improve on athleticism as well as his ability to field ground balls. Offensively, he swings through a level zone, is aggressive and makes okay contact. His barrel tends to drag through the zone. If Hector can use more of his backside and be shorter to the zone his bat speed will increase therefore improving his hitting and power grades. Garcia has time and will continue to improve with hard work.

07/24/2011 - Cape Cod Pro Select Training - July 24-28, 2011 Garcia showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in San Antonio, TX. Feet are active as he moves well laterally and works to keep balls in front but must be more aggressive in attacking balls while playing through. Throws are accurate but he needs to get on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength and carry. Offensively, Hector shows a balanced and aggressive line drive approach. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching full potential with grades improving with instruction / adjustments. He works hard, listens well, and is very coachable as he wants to be the best he can be.

05/15/2011 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Hector is a young, solid, athletic SS who will graduate in 2014. Defensively, Hector has good range to the glove side, his feet are active, and his hands are playable. He covers ground well, makes plays, and he has good footwork on the double play. Hector has a quick / clean exchange, and he throws with a long arm action with accuracy to his target. Defensive tool grades can get better if Hector can loosen his actions, field further out in front of his body, and add arm strength. Offensively, Hector has an athletic set-up, a short stride, and a smooth load. He tracks the ball well, he makes consistent contact, and he can spray to all fields. Hitting can improve with a looser grip, added bat speed, and finishing off his swing better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
