Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

07/12/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Carter continues to show as a 2B/RHP but currently projects best at 2B for the next level. He has improved his baseball tools since the last time we saw him. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Feet are active as he attacks balls, displaying clean hands. He needs to play ground balls more, continue to increase foot quickness, and present hands more out front to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work to and through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 1 for 3. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late bite. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be, displaying a passion for the game.

01/27/2013 - College PREP - Myrtle Beach, SC Holden is a young RHP/2B that will graduate in 2014. Currently, he projects best at 2B for the next level. Feet are active as he attacks ground balls with his feet, squaring up well and displaying clean hands. He needs to work to play through balls while presenting hands more out front and increase foot speed to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Carter shows a balance setup and rhythm. Hands are loose / smooth and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He throws a slider that resembles his breaking ball but is harder. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Holden has abilities with room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
