07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Holden continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is a prospect on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Pop times showed in the 2.25 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the ball quicker. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

03/31/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Greensboro, NC Holden is a young C prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Holden shows efficient footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting back into his load and leads well with his lower half. He works to barrel up the baseball and drives to his pull side. With five more years to develop, Holden has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Holden is an athletic and talented 2024 2-ways prospect. Behind the dish, Holden starts in a balanced primary and has an athletic secondary stance. He presents a low/early target, works behind the ball, and has soft hands when receiving. When blocking, Holden leads with his glove, creates a good angle over the ball, and controls balls with his chest. He replaces his feet and is synch when throwing. At the plate, Holden starts in a tall stance and has a small load. He keeps the barrel flat to the ball, shows discipline at the plate, and drives the ball to all fields. On the bump, Holden has a simple delivery and throws strikes with both pitches. He gets slight run on his fastball and has a medium break on his curveball. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works north to south. Holden is a hard worker and we hope to see him continue his progress in the future.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Holden is an athletic and talented 2024 Catching prospect that worked hard all week. Behind the dish, Holden starts in a relaxed primary and athletic secondary stance. He has soft hands and tries works behind the ball when receiving. He leads with his glove, tucks his chin, and tries to control the ball in the dirt with his chest. He exchanges the ball with two hands, has a quick release, and replaces his feet when throwing. He needs to continue to take a short jab step and gain ground when throwing to second base. At the plate, Holden starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and gets his backside through the swing consistently. He has fast hands, and drives the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and be aggressive on the fastball. Holden is a hard worker and will continue to improve with experience.

At SS, Holden has quick/fluid feet, he fields athletically, and gets rid of the ball quickly; throwing with a short/loose arm to his target. At the plate, Holden has a tall/open stance, good balance, and he swings in good rhythm. He can spray to all fields and gets his lower body through the zone. He will be one to watch as he gets older for sure.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
