Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

04/30/2017 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Houston is projectable OF who continues to work hard on his skills. With the bat, this RHH displays a balanced setup while working back into a loaded position. Swing is short/compact as he squares the ball up and drives it on a line, with pull-side pop. In the OF, he hustles to his right and left to track down fly-balls. Transfer/exchange is clean with accuracy on his throws. Working to stay more on top of his throws will help to give them more carry into his target. Houston is a top of the line-up type of guy with speed who has upside on the diamond.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Houston is a tall, wiry two-way prospect who competes at an extremely high level every time he steps on the field. He shows off an impressive arm both in the outfield and on the mound, able to run his fastball up into the upper 70's and hold keep runners from taking extra bases. At the dish, this RHH has an athletic setup at the plate and shows good tracking skills to pick up pitches early. He makes consistent contact to put the ball in play and put pressure on the defense. On the hill, he works with good rhythm and attacks hitters to keep them off balance, and competes in every at-bat. He shows command to both sides of the plate on his fastball and breaking ball with an on-time separation to keep his arm in sync with his body. Getting on top of his breaking ball will increase tilt and break to reach its potential as an out pitch. In the outfield, his feet work efficiently with good prep pre-pitch to be in the best position to make a play. He communicates with other fielders well to ensure plays are made and displays a quick release to throw with accuracy to his target. Houston is an intriguing prospect we look forward to continue watching throughout his senior year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
