06/17/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Hunter only showed at 3B but continues to show a lot of improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing solid hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, (85 mph exit velocity) generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat centered as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Defensively, he attacks balls, plays through well, and presents soft / sure hands out front. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy across the diamond. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

06/05/2016 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS This young, 2-way player continues to progress on the diamond. With the bat, Hunter shows a balanced setup with a solid base. He has rhythm to load and pulls the pitch on the inner 1/2 with pop. At 3B - he takes good angles to work around the GB, funnels smoothly and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Continuing to quicken his footwork will help to increase lateral range. On the mound, this righty remains compact throughout his delivery. He works in-line and repeats well. FB still sits in the low 70's while breaking ball has 10/4 shape. More glove side lead with more lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to get more into his FB. A 2019 grad - Hunter has a solid skill-set that should provide success over the next few years.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Hunter is a gamer who plays the game the right way. He is very coachable and is a great teammate, exuding positive energy. At 3B, he hustles into a square fielding position and tracks the GB into his mitt. He secures the ball with 2-hands, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to increase lateral range and improve his skills at 3B. As a hitter - Hunter stands in well with a solid base and patience, letting the pitch travel into the zone. He barrels the ball up consistently while showing some pop when he centers it. Finishing more more extension will help to tap into more power potential. On the mound, this RHP works to a controlled balance point and drives downhill toward the dish. FB now tops out at 74 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with good action. He varies his looks with runners on - keeping them guessing. He mixes his pitches well, making for an uncomfortable at-bat. Continuing to develop more arm strength through a long toss program will help velocity on his FB to continue to climb. Developing a more consistent feel for his CH will improve effectiveness on the bump. Burtrum is a hard worker who has upside on the diamond.

09/06/2015 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Hunter is a thick, strong RHP/3B that will graduate in 2019. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered and works to keep hands inside the ball, displaying gap to gap pop. Hitting grades for being a freshman are very impressive. At 3B, feet are active as he works to get around balls, squares up well, and displays clean hands. Defensive grades will continue to improve as he works to play through balls more while presenting hands more out front, and increasing foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 64-70 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 4 years to further develop, Hunter has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
