Official Scouting Report

07/27/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 5 French continues to show solid abilities in his game. Feet are active as he works through a low approach as he makes the routine plays. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front, play through balls, and improve foot speed to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength / carry through a long toss program. At the plate, Hunter shows a balanced approach with hands working through a short / direct swing path. He displays good rhythm and timing with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half with proper weight transfer more. Mental makeup is a plus as he displays a positive attitude and plays with a lot of energy.

04/01/2012 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Hunter continues to work on his game and shows decent skills at 3B. He is a solid fielder with clean hands and an accurate arm. Defensive grades will continue to rise as he improves foot speed and develop more arm strength. At the plate, French shows a balanced approach with rhythm and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more.

09/17/2011 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Commuter) Hunter shows good foundation in his stride and load, also shows good rhythm through his entire swing. Hunter also has good ability to use his upper body and lower body well together. He could improve on hitting the ball to all fields by letting the ball travel deeper into the hitting zone.

06/23/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Hunter showed similar abilities in Omaha as he has done in previous workouts. Defensively, Hunter presents his glove well, he has decent range, and he keeps the ball in front of his body. He makes the routine plays, his exchange is quick and clean, and he has good throwing accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, Hunter has good balance, an easy load, and he swings in quiet tempo. He has some separation, he knows the strike zone, and he works the count into his favor.

01/14/2011 - Pirate City Spring Training - 2011 French continues to show improvements in all his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved as he utilizes his feet well with throws showing carry and accuracy across the diamond. He will benefit by staying on a long toss program to continue to aid in further developing more arm strength. At 3B, hands are solid displaying soft, clean, and sure glove action. He needs to work to improve range and mobility through a speed / agility program. Offensively, Hunter shows a balanced approach allowing his hands to work freely through the zone. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. His power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing.

09/26/2010 - College PREP - McKees Rocks, PA Hunter is a young, strong, 3rd baseman that will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Hunter attacks the ball aggressively and moves well to his left side. He makes plays on balls hit his way, he turns a nice double play, and he throws accurately to his target. Defensive grades can improve if Hunter can lighten his feet, loosen his actions, and get his glove down sooner. Offensively, Hunter has average balance and barrel accuracy. He has a good load, decent hands, and he finds the barrel of the bat. Hunter currently has limited power, and if he can avoid lunging to the ball, and get more extension through, hitting numbers can improve with age and maturity.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
