Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Hunter is a young RHP with good athleticism, mound presence, and pitchability. He improved his FB velocity up to 83 MPH and showed solid skills on the mound at the UA Preseason All-America. His delivery is inline, on time, and in good rhythm. He has a quick arm, good arm path, and a closed front side. He has good control of his pitches and his off-speed compliment his FB well. Hunter can improve on the hill if he can quicken his pace, get better command of his CB, and hold runners on base better. Offensively, Hunter improved his hitting and power grades from 48 to 50 and 48 to 55 respectively. He has good balance, bat speed, and a level swing. Hunter's hands are quick and he has pop in his bat. With more direct hands to the ball, and a little shorter stroke, Hunter can continue to improve hitting grades.

06/03/2009 - Under Armour Southeast Regional Tournament - 2009 Hunter is a young prospect with ability at 2 positions. He has a strong arm on the mound with velocities in the upper 80's and he commands his offspeed pitches. His delivery is loose and he is not afraid to challenge hitters. In the OF, Hunter has an accurate throw and decent range. He has the instincts to play the position in college if he continues to work hard. Everything works well together in the field. At the plate, Hunter has good bat speed and balance. He has a little pop to the pull side but he needs to work on his timing in order to hit the ball where it is pitched. It will be interesting to watch Hunter develop over the next couple of years.

02/08/2009 - College PREP - Houston, TX Hunter is a young two way player in the OF and on the mound with a tall, athletic looking body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best in the OF where he shows off his athletic ability. Foot speed is below average and needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through ball. He takes proper routes and angles in tracking down balls. Defensive abilities are near above average. Arm strength is above average displaying carry on his throws but needs to work on a more consistent release. Arm strength will continue to improve through a strict long toss program. At the plate, hitting abilities and power are near above average. He shows a square stance with hands working inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. Bat speed is present and shows a solid feel for the barrel. On the mound, fastball is near average and will show better if more arm strength is developed. Breaking ball and changeup are solid average pitches and show potential to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Hagler has the makings to be a solid outfielder at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
