Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

07/29/2013 - College PREP - Gaffney, SC Hunter is a thick 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and plays through well, displaying soft / clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to present hands more and improve foot quickness. Arm strength is outstanding with throws displaying life, accuracy and carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Hernandez shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and he has strength in his swing with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-80 mph. Breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level, displaying 11/5 shape with cutting action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 2 years to further develop, Hunter has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
