Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Hunter continues to shine on the diamond. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, presenting hands as he makes the plays. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 73-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

02/11/2018 - College PREP - Monticello, IA Hunter is a big RHP graduating in 2019. On the mound, Hunter does a great job of repeating his delivery and keeping a good pace. He shows good balance gathering over the rubber, separates on time and has a clean arm action(high 3/4 slot), extending through the throw on his release. He keeps a square direction to his target, showing a controlled landing and finishing with his chest over his front knee. Hunter shows he can throw his three pitches for strikes (FB, CB and CH). With more drive in his lower half, Hunter could gain more velocity on his pitches. At the plate, Hunter shows a middle of the field approach. He has a tall, athletic set up with a short stride and a good center of balance. With a stronger lower half and more rhythm, Hunter could gain more power on his swings and make more consistent contact. With another year of development, Hunter could play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
