12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Smith showed in the OF for the first time plus behind the plate and has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has really improved as he is now a superior runner at 6.74. His feet are quick and athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls, displaying range. His hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry on his throws. He looks the part in the OF and shows a solid feel for his position. Behind the plate, pop times showed a range of 2.10-2.20. Receiving / blocking skills show potential as playable tools as he continues to improve. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. At the plate, Hunter continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed that work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. He will hit and hit with pop at the next level. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a HR. Hunter has the makings to be a solid collegiate player and will get looks from the college coaches.
