06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18)
Ian continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.03 runner. At SS, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork in attacking balls. He works to square ground balls up but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.
04/02/2017 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL
Ian is a tall, lanky RHP/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.15. In the MIF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays quick / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Athletic abilities are present through his feeds / turn of the double play. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground, displays range in the MIF. Throws are accurate with life, accuracy, and on line carry across the diamond but needs to work to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He displays well above average power potential as he has strength in his swing with lower half working well through the swing. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with the baseball exploding off bat when centered. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 73-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Ian has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.
