07/17/2017 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Ian is an athletic OF/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.13. At the plate is where he shows best as a switch hitter with outstanding abilities through an open setup. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop from both sides. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls and plays through well. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, he shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Ian has the makings of a special type player, possibly as a two-way guy.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
