01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Ian is a well-rounded prospect who makes a big impact both offensively and defensively. His quick feet and lateral agility behind the plate allow him to have extended range to both sides to smother the ball in the dirt. He receives with firm hands in the zone and is quiet behind the plate to present pitches for strikes. He is strong at the plate with a powerful load and incorporated lower half to generate power and bat speed. His bat is fast through the zone, working on a level path to make square contact and spray hits to all field. Ian's all-around ability make him a very exciting prospect.

07/24/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Ian is a strong, vocal leader with good tools and the drive to get better every day. He takes a huge hack at the plate and already shows plus power with the ball jumping off his bat. AT the plate, he is a patient hitter who always has a plan during his at bats. He has a balanced setup with an on time load to a strong hitting position and a very fast bat through the zone to make hard contact. As a catcher, Ian presents a good target and receives with soft hands, working around the ball. He is agile with good lateral movement and uses this to block the ball consistently. Working on his exchange will lead to lower pop times and more runners thrown out. Ian is an exciting, young prospect who we expect to be a good prospect for the next level.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Ian showed strong playability and improvements to his measurables at the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City. Offensively, he hit with strength and athleticism to all fields. He kept his head down at contact and was direct with his path using his hands and hips to accelerate through the zone. Continued work with the lower half, driving through contact and tracking the ball deep will help enhance pop to all fields. Behind the dish, he moved well with soft/sure hands. He had good body control and was quick down to block, squaring and deadening the ball in front. He showed quick feet to recover and worked on becoming more vocal and more consistent to receive athletically (without dropping a knee). On the hill, he threw a FB from 63-66, spun a 10/4 CB from 56-58, and showed a CH from 58-61. He has a good tempo and worked on keeping his front side on the target to repeat and add command. In all - Ian is a young ball player that does a lot of things well on the diamond and projects over the course of high school.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Ian is a talented catcher that showed good leadership skills behind the plate. When catching, Ian receives with soft hands, moves well laterally, and showed the proper blocking technique. He stays in line with his footwork and makes accurate throws with good carry to 2B. At the plate he has a smooth load, good balance, and uses his lower half well. He has explosive bat speed for his age and showed a lot of power potential. He hit solid line drives during games and BP and he has gap to gap power. Ian showed his versatility during camp as he also showcased on the mound. He has a quick delivery and pounds the zone with his fastball. He drives with his lower half and gets good extension finishing his pitches. With some added secondary pitchers, Ian will be a nice option on the mound.

07/07/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition Ian is a solid young catcher who has a good setup, footwork and blocks very well. He has good footwork when throwing to bases yet he needs to improve his communication to command the field. He needs to increase is arm strength to continue to be efficient behind the plate. Offensively, Ian has a good athletic stance and is very controlled. He has good balance and a smooth simple load with good barrel delivery. He needs to create more rhythm and hone in on his pitch selections. Ian is a good young player who is very polite, listens well and is very coachable.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
