07/03/2019 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Ian continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

03/10/2019 - College PREP - Manalapan, NJ Ian continues to show a bright future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (92 mph exit velocity), generating bat speed through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and zip (82 mph velocity) to his target.

06/26/2018 - College PREP - New Britain (Hartford), CT Ian is a talented 1B prospect who has a strong, projectable frame. In the field, Ian plays with active footwork and effective angles to cover good ground. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low, square position. Ian has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate with good strength across the diamond. Ian also shows good bag awareness and has a high ceiling at the position. Offensively, Ian has an open stance with a firm front side and centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a square stride. Ian shows fast bat speed with a long swing path. He maintains a strong base and delivers square contact. Ian has the ability to drive the ball to each gap with power. Overall, Ian has skills on both sides of the ball and potential to get even better.

02/10/2018 - Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Ian is a hard-working and talented prospect that made several adjustments during the hitting accelerated training weekend. At the plate, Ian loads his hands back into the drive position and creates whip in the barrel. He uses his lower half and shows pull side pop. Continuing to create separation in his load and attacking the inside part of the ball will allow him to stay compact. Ian will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ian is a solid RHH 1B who can swing it. At the plate, he has a solid base, remains balanced and whips the barrel to and through the zone. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. At 1B, he has active prep and comes to get the GB. He tracks the ball into a soft mitt and gathers well. Footwork around the bag is solid as he can adjust to throws up and down the line with the ability to pick it. Continuing to improve his foot speed and agility will aid in his development. A 2020 grad, Ian will make things happen as he is only in his sophomore season. He is one to keep an eye on.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ian continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show tremendous power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, a team player, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/12/2017 - College PREP - Middletown (Hartford), CT Ian is a big, strong, 1st baseman with strength and pop in his bat. Defensively, Ian has efficient footwork to the ball, he covers some ground and moves well around the bag. He presents his glove well, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy from a long arm action to his target. Quicker/lighter feet, following his throws, and added arm strength will help defensive numbers rise. Offensively, Ian has a tall stance, short/square stride, and he loads properly. He has fast bat speed, makes hard contact, and has pull pop in his bat. Hitting grades can further improve if Ian can work on balance, rhythm, and use more lower body.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
