09/23/2018 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Ian is an athletic OF prospect who continues to show improvements on the diamond. In the field is where he has show the most improvement, flashing efficient footwork and using his speed to attack the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange to throw and keeps his throws consistent to his target. Ian can further improve defensively by playing through the ball more. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and hits from a strong front side. He takes a level swing with good extension through the ball which leads to hard contact and line drives. Ian can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. Overall, Ian is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

02/20/2017 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Ian is a lean OF who will graduate in 2019. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.13. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive approach. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. With 2 years to further develop, Ian has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
