Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

10/16/2019 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Ian is a coachable 1B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Arizona Fall Classic. In the field, Ian fields well and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Ian improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and gets into his load well. He takes a level swing and produces solid contact. Ian can improve as a hitter by not over swinging. On the mound, Ian shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits at 69mph with 10-4 break. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Ian improve as a pitcher. With four more years to develop, Ian has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

02/17/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Highland Park (DFW), TX Ian is a solid, 2-way player with good skills at both positions. At 1st base, Ian takes good angles to the ball, he creates a good fielding angle, and he makes plays consistently. He gains ground, his exchange is clean, and he throws with consistency from a long arm action to his target. In the OF, Ian has a good 1st step to the ball, he tracks well, and will lay out for the ball. He gets around the ball properly, and throws with good arm strength to his cut off man. At the plate, Ian has an open stance, he loads well, and transfers his weight properly. He has fast bat speed, hits well to the opposite field, and he uses some lower body. Overall skills can get better with work on the following.

Infield
1. Play more through
2. Range
3. Release
Outfield
1. Release
2. Hands
3. Footwork
Offense
1. Barrel accuracy
2. Rhythm
3. Swing path

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
