Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

11/04/2018 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Irvin is a tall and lanky 2021 2-way prospect. At SS, Irvin is on time with his prep step, presents a low/early glove, and has range on both side of the ball. He fields the ball in front of his body and makes accurate throws. At the plate, Irvin starts in a squared stance, he has a smooth load, and tracks the ball well. He consistently finds the barrel and keeps the barrel on plane through the zone. On the bump, Irvin gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and gets balanced in his delivery. He rides his back leg toward the plate and works north to south. His fastball has slight sink and his curveball has some depth. Irvin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Irvin is a tall, athletic SS who will graduate in 2021. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.34. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a tall, squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Irvin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
