08/07/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Dublin (Columbus), OH JR continues to improve and refine his game in the middle infield. He showed a low approach to ground balls with proper glove presentation out in front and a proficiency for double plays, making clean/quick exchanges to quickly throw the ball to 1st. At the plate, he once again showed his middle approach, keeping a quiet head with very good tracking skills. Getting his hands into a load position pre pitch will help with power to all fields. Continuing to mature both physically and as a ball player, JR will be exciting to track during his senior season of baseball.

08/02/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Dublin (Columbus), OH This athletic MIF continues to work hard on his game. Defensively, he takes good angles and works around the GB smoothly. He tracks the ball into his mitt, gathers well and gains ground toward his target. Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss program) will aid in his development on the left side of the INF. As a hitter - J.R. has a balanced setup with quiet/simple actions. Swing is short/direct to and through the zone as he connects and drives the middle of the field. Increased bat speed will result in more power at the plate. A 2017 grad - Helminski still has time to develop his skills and gain strength.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City JR showed a sure glove and accurate arm in his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he presented his glove and worked his feet to throw. Speed and agility drills and becoming more aggressive to come get the ball is crucial to his play in the middle at the next level. In the box, he had decent balance and showed to be a contact hitter. His barrel accuracy was sound and he had good strike zone awareness. More consistent timing and hand implementation in his load will improve bat speed and strength through contact. All in all - JR is a great kid that hustles on and off the field and plays the game the right way.

08/03/2014 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH JR is a lean SS that will graduate in 2017. At SS, he works to square balls up and displays soft / sure hands. He moves well laterally, flashing range and shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increase foot quickness and play through balls with his body. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power grades will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more. With 3 years to further develop, JR has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
