09/23/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Jack continues to show as a prospect on the diamond as he continues to progress his game. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the MIF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and aggressive as he attacks balls in the zone. Swing path is level and he shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side.

09/04/2016 - College PREP - Livonia, MI Jack continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and plays through a low approach. Glove action is soft / clean as he presents on time. Range will improve as he continues to increase foot quickness. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound arm strength has increased as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in developing stock on the mound.

09/20/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Detroit, MI Jack is a hard worker who continues to develop on the diamond. In the INF, he has active prep and moves fluidly around the GB. He has a clean exchange and can turn the DP smoothly. Offensively, Jack has a balanced/quiet setup as he waits for his pitch. He works to engage his lower 1/2 helping to generate torque and pop off of the barrel. Relaxing/loosening his grip will help to increase bat speed / bat whip which will result in more power off the bat. On the mound, he maintains a smooth pace, gets good glove-side lead and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 61-62 mph while showing slight sink. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape as he throws it for strikes. Working to a taller balance point and driving off of his lower 1/2 will help to get more into his FB. Only a 2019 grad - Jack still has a lot of time to work on and develop his skills.

04/26/2015 - National Tryout - Grand Rapids, MI Jack continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his feet well in his lateral movement and works to get around balls, presenting clean hands well out front. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he continues to increase foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and utilizes all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he adds more overall body strength. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 61 mph. Fastball showed a range of 59-61 mph with arm side run. Off stuff has improved, now showing potential as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes.

In the infield he has quick feet, fields with sure hands, and is aggressive with his approach. He uses the proper footwork and has a quick exchange. At the plate he has a smooth load, good balance, and keeps his hands inside staying in the middle of the field with his approach. He makes consistent contact and has excellent barrel accuracy. On the mound Jack has a solid 3 pitch mix that includes a fastball, curveball with an 11/5 shape, and a changeup with good sink / fade. He pounds the zone with all 3 pitches and knows the importance of working ahead of hitters. His mechanics are clean and he repeats his delivery. Jack showed a lot of potential on the mound and should continue to improve with more arm strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
