01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Dougherty similar abilities as we had previously seen at Team One Northeast, only showing in the OF. Feet are quick / active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and plays through ground balls aggressively. He gathers himself well as he works to get behind, playing through with clean hands. His throws are accurate with on line carry into his target. At the plate, Jack shows a balanced setup and loads well, allowing his quick hands to attack the baseball. He takes a hack but needs to work on staying inside the baseball to use all fields.

07/24/2011 - Team One Northeast 2011 Jack improved his hitting grade from 48 to 50 and showed similar abilities both on the mound and in the OF. Defensively, Jack plays with loose actions, he tracks the ball well, and he plays through properly. He has quick / active footwork, soft hands, and he tracks the ball off the bat well. Jack has a clean exchange and he throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Jack has a repeatable delivery, he keeps his eyes to his target, and he uses his lower 1/2. He works to his balance point well, lands in with good direction, and he finishes off his pitches. Offensively, Jack showed a tall, athletic set-up, good balance, and quick hands. He has a compact / level swing, he gets good extension through the ball, and he can work gap to gap.

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Dougherty showed solid offensive and defensive abilities for his current age at the Pre-Season All-America. At the plate, Jack has a quiet approach, good balance and quick hands to the ball. He has good bat speed, a level swing, and he can spray to all fields. In the OF, Jack has a good set-up, looks the part and takes decent routes to the baseball. He looks the ball into his glove, has a clean exchange and throws with accuracy to his target. Dougherty also lowered his 60 time at the event from 7.9 to 7.34. Jack is a solid overall two-way player that with continued improvement will get looks from college coaches.

10/27/2010 - Arizona Fr/So Fall Classic - 2010 Jack continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He showed on the mound for the first time but projects best in the OF for the next level. Fastball displays range of 75-80 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball is near average, needing further development to be a quality pitch. In the OF, he continues to show an aggressive approach and is fundamentally sound. Arm strength has improved as he shows life, accuracy, and on line carry into his target. Offensively, Jack shows a balanced approach with hands working inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel as he was 3 for 9 at the event.

07/21/2009 - Cape Cod Training 2009 - Week 3 Dougherty is an OF who has also shown the ability to play behind the plate and the INF in the past. He has a thin frame with broad, square shoulders. His strength lies at the plate where he already shows solid avg and is very fundamental sound. He uses the entire field in a simple, compact, efficient approach to hitting. His power will improve with physical maturity and he will also improve when he learns to stay on top of the ball more creating more line drives rather than fly balls. Defensively he shows good hands, exchange, and arm stroke. He also moves through the ball well. He can use more aggression to the baseball, which should also help his overall jumps and reads. Jack has the makings of a plus hitter with solid OF playability.

11/07/2008 - Dodgertown Select Training - 2008 Good actions behind the plate, with below average arm. Contact hitter with good hands and good balance. 8.87 60-yard dash.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
