07/27/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Jack Hayes is a 2017 graduate who pitches and plays 1st base. In the infield Jack uses 2 hands when fielding, plays thru well, and fields out front. At the plate Jack keeps his hands back with his load, has a centered stride, and stable balance. On the mound Jack has a sound arm action, good timing, and a nice feel for pitching. He showed a good mound presence and was able to throw strikes with his fastball. He has a lot of potential in the field and on the mound because he works hard at every position he plays. With his abilities and work ethic, Jack has a nice future in the game.

11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Jack is a 2017 graduate who is a RHP and also plays 1B. On the mound throws from an over the arm slot with long/loose action and he has repeatable mechanics. His balance point was controlled and his separation was on-time but his direction and finish are not in-line. His fastball has run and he throws it for strikes, he has a good feel for his 2-seam but the curveball needs work. As a fielder Jack showed soft hands, controlled approach and good footwork but he is a little too tentative. Also he needs to "go get the ball" on possible picks. At the plate Jack has an athletic stance, short stride, stable balance, he makes consistent contact and he is an aggressive hitter. He needs to develop a load, firm up his front side and his timing is late. If Jack makes some adjustments at the plate he can be a very successful hitter. Jack is a very good kid and he seems to enjoy playing the game. If he continues to work he can be a very good player in the future

06/24/2011 - Maryland Select Training Jack did a very good job at the Maryland Training event. Jack is a 2017 graduate who pitches and plays outfield. He has a strong lower half and quick feet. On the mound Jack showed great composure for his age. His fastball has slight downward movement and he throws it for strikes. His changeup is a little erratic and is too fast in comparison to his fastball. He has the making of a nice sinker as well. Jack needs to use his lower half more and quicken his back-swing. Also, on his back-swing Jack falls towards first base. In the outfield Jack needs to work on his footwork and getting behind the ball and following through it. His arm is consistent and accurate but he needs to use his entire body. At the plate Jack has an athletic stance and setup. He needs to have a more definitive stride and load. He needs to let the travel into his hitting zone and use his lower half more. Also, his bat drags because he locks out his lead elbow. Jack is a good kid that is very coachable. He showed a passion for the game that will serve him well in the future.

04/10/2011 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Jack is a RHP / OF with average size and a strong lower 1/2. On the mound Jack has a loose / free arm action, a tall balance point, and on-time separation. He has a smooth delivery, he gets good extension, and he lands in an athletic / complete position. In the OF, Jack has sure hands, active feet, and good range. He surrounds fly balls and ground balls well, fields in an athletic position, and his exchange is clean. Jack throws with a long / loose arm with average strength and good accuracy to his target. Offensively, Jack has a square set-up, proper load, and direct hands to the ball. He has average bat speed, he gets good extension, and he can spray to all fields. Below are some things for Jack to work on in order to get better.

Pitching
1. Work from windup
2. Develop CB
Defense
1. Aggressiveness to ball
2. Long toss
Offense
1. Barrel accuracy
2. Lower 1/2
3. Swing path

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
