Official Scouting Report

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Jack is a 2017 graduate who plays third base and pitches. In the field Jack throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and is consistent with arm action. He plays thru the ball and has a controlled approach with his footwork. Jack fields out in front of his body and presents the glove well. At the plate Jack sets up tall with his hands high. His stride can sometimes be long, so we would like to see a shorter stride to have consistent balance. He uses his lower half well and his timing is good. With more consistency at the plate, Jack will be a nice fit in any lineup for the future as he is a good contact hitter. On the mound Jack threw strikes with his fastball and curve ball. His curve has a 11/5 shape with late movement. His fastball has some late tail and he works down in the zone. He has good balance and can repeat his delivery with every pitch. With more reps all around Jack will continue to get better and will be able to compete at the next level due to his all around athleticism.

07/22/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Jack is a tall 3B / RHP with a thin frame. Defensively, Jack has soft / sure hands, active feet, and he moves to the ball well. He fields in a low / athletic position, he has a clean exchange, and he throws with a loose arm action with accuracy and life to his target. On the mound, Jack has a long / free arm action, a controlled balance point, and eyes to his target. He has good glove side lead, keeps his shoulders level, and he finishes in a complete position. Offensively, Jack has a square / athletic set-up, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, average bat speed, and he makes square contact. Jack has a short / fluid swing and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Earlier glove
2. Long toss
Pitching
1. Off-speed
2. Long toss
Offense
1. Barrel accuracy
2. Added bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
