Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

05/29/2016 - College PREP - Wappinger Falls, NY Jack is a talented (6'4"/170) 2-way player who continues to develop. With the bat, this strong righty has rhythm to load and squares the ball up with pop. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it on a line. At 1B, Jack moves well right and left getting his mitt on almost everything his his way. He moves well around the bag and can pick balls out of the dirt with soft hands. On the mound, this RHP maintains fluid tempo and repeats his delivery well. FB now tops out at 79 mph while showing sinking action - which will result in GB outs. CB has 11/5 shape with good action. Kiernan has tools that will play at the next level.

11/15/2012 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Jack Kiernan is a 2017 graduate who plays 3rd base. In the field Jack has sure hands, active footwork, and agile range. He works to get around the ball well, shows good body control, and has plus actions when fielding. At the plate he has a nice load, takes a short stride, balance stays centered, and he uses his lower half well. He made consistent contact during the games and was able to find barrel. He has a good approach and is a disciplined hitter.

07/09/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Minneapolis, MN Jack is a young, 2-way player with a thin frame. At 3B, Jack has firm hands, active feet, and he presents his glove well. He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm action with accuracy to his target. In the OF, Jack has nice actions, sure hands, and he takes good routes. He has an accurate arm to his cut off man. Offensively, Jack has a tall / square set-up, good balance, and he makes consistent contact. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Field further out in front
2. Lighten feet
3. Long toss
Outfield
1. Get to ball quicker
2. Loosen actions
Offense
1. More lower 1/2
2. Level off swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
