12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Lester improved his 60-yard dash from 7.56 down to 7.31. In addition, he showed a nearly a half grade better hitting ability and raw power. He setup well in the box and showed hitter actions along with a loose left handed stroke. His bat speed was good and he showed power potential as well. Tended to pull open early with his front side, resulting in some trouble covering the outer half of the plate - needs to work to stay more on the balls of his feet, and to stay closed longer with his front shoulder. Defensively, he showed solid glove action along with some arm strength. Overall, he has an athletic build and potential to handle the bat well from the left side of the plate.

10/26/2008 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Jack is a young two way player in the outfield and at 1B. He has a lanky, athletic looking body that does show future projection as it continues to fill out. Currently, he does project best in the OF. Foot speed is near average and needs to improve. Feet are active and aggressive in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the outfield. He works to get behind and play through with momentum to his target but does need to utilize two hands more through the catch and transfer to throw. In the infield, he consistently shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Glove actions are soft, sure and clean. He does need to come get ground balls more with his feet, playing through. Arm strength is average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. At the plate, Lester has solid average ability and power. Set up and approach are simple and quiet allowing his quick hands to work directly to the baseball. Bat speed is a plus and keeps the barrel through the baseball at contact. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Swing path does get long and needs to let the ball travel more, keeping hands inside to utilize all fields. With 2 years to further develop, Jack has the makings to become a solid player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
