12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Jack is a coachable, hardworking player who is willing to make adjustments to be the best player he can be. In the OF, range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. He plays hard and is not afraid to lay out for the baseball. At the plate he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed in the low 70 range with solid arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late depth. Changeup has solid sinking action but slows arm speed, tipping pitch to hitters. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in development on the mound.

08/03/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Jack continues to show a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground and makes all the plays. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. His arm continues to be strong. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball has some tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on changeup with tailing action as well. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. Jack has a lot of potential and will get looks as he continues to progress his game. We like him more as an outfielder but he is athletic and his versatility can play on the mound as well.

07/23/2016 - Factory Development Institute National Select Program Jack continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved, now showing outstanding as he displays quick, smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes and angles in tracking down balls and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting and power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive, level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side. At the event, he was 2 for 4 with a BB. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-74 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with tight spin and late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to build more arm strength will aid in further development on the mound. Mental makeup is outstanding as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable, and is a great team player. Jack has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

07/06/2016 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Jack is a solid two-way prospect who shows tools all over the field, on the mound, at the plate and in the outfield. He has free and clean arm stroke on the mound which allows him to throw his fastball and changeup, his go to offering, with the same arm speed which creates good deception. Jack also has a smooth, repeatable delivery which allows him to get to a consistent release point. Strengthening his front side will allow Jack to stay more balanced on the mound, resulting in more strikes and better shape to his pitches. In the outfield, Jack does a good job pre-pitch, being in the correct position and being ready to chase down balls other fielders couldn't reach. He fields the ball out front and gets in a good throwing position to use his accurate arm. Jack's athleticism allows him to play above his tools and we look forward to seeing him continue to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
