Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Jack is a 2-way 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2020. At 3B Jack has a relaxed ready position with smooth footwork. He fields the ball athletically and low. He exchanges the ball cleanly creating momentum towards his target and making accurate throws with backspin across the diamond. At the plate Jack has a tall setup. He works hard to rotate his lower half and get the barrel on plane with the pitch. He shows the ability to make solid line drive contact and showed to be selective early on pitches in the games. On the mound, Jack showed a 3-pitch mix with a FB, CB, and SL. The FB showed some sink, the CB had gradual 11-5 break, and the SL had good depth with tight spin. His mechanics are simple with a clean arm action and good stride length. Jack worked hard out in Omaha and we look forward to seeing his development.

03/10/2019 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Jack is a 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Jack shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He fields in a low position and makes a quick exchange, keeping his throws accurate with carry through his target. Keeping his hands low to the ball can help Jack improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He takes a short swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid contact. Jack can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Jack gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing with a controlled landing. Jack shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph. Breaking ball sits from 60-62mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 70-72mph. Jack can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. Overall, Jack is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
