Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

05/12/2019 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Jack continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph with tailing action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Jack is a huge two-way prospect with a projectable body and a great baseball frame. He uses his size and strength to flash pop and big power potential as he continues to grow and develop. He is smooth in the box to load and launch, staying balanced throughout his swing. His lower half is strong to generate bat speed and pop, especially to the pull side. At first, he works well around the bag, creating good angles for fielders to make throws. He gets square to field and does a good job keeping the ball in front while making accurate throws. On the bump, this big lefty generates good arm side action on his fastball that sits in the mid 60's and complements it with a 2-8 curveball. He shows smooth rhythm in his delivery and is on time to keep his arm in sync and get to a consistent release point. Getting on top of his pitches will result in more action and better location. Jack is an intriguing prospect we look forward to following as he continues to develop.

05/13/2018 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Jack is a strong and talented 2021 2-way player. At 1B, Jack works well off the bag and picks balls out of the dirt consistently. He plays through the ball, has a clean exchange, and makes accurate throws on double plays. At the plate, Jack starts in a tall stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He has quick hands and uses his backside well, and shows pull side pop. On the bump, Jack separates on time, stays squared toward his target, and has a loose arm action. He pounds the bottom half of the zone and has a balanced finish. Jack will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
