05/16/2010 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Jack improved his overall hitting grade to a 48, showing loose, quick hands that stayed inside the ball very well. He showed above average pop in his barrel once again as he displayed late explosion and squared the ball consitently. Would like to see his lower half become a bigger part of his swing to continue to up his power grade. He once again displayed above average all around actions in the outfield. On the mound, he raised his overall top velocity 2 mph to 76. He will need to loosen up his overall delivery and create a better finish to continue to improve in delivery numbers. He improved his running time to first base by .3 seconds, lowering it to 4.42. Jack has shown very steady improvement in all areas over the past year and still has a good amount of time as a 2011 graduate.

12/27/2009 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2009 With a lean and very athletic body type, Waller continues to improve and is now a class 5 type player in the OF where he projects best for the next level. Foot speed is now well above average as he ran a 6.91 60 at the event. He utilized his foot speed in displaying good range in the OF during game play. At the plate, he shows quick hands, flashing bat speed through an aggressive approach. Once on the bases, he is a smart base runner that will take the extra base. Only a junior now, Waller has the potential to improve his tools even further through continued hard work.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Jack continues to show steady improvement in baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.03 and is now an above average runner. He shows aggressive actions in the OF as he takes proper first steps in getting on proper routes and angles to track down fly balls. Defensive abilities have improved to solid average. At the plate, Waller shows solid hands that work quickly and directly to the baseball, generating plus bat speed through a good set up and approach.

02/08/2009 - College PREP - Houston, TX Jack is a young two way player in the OF and on the mound with a strong, athletic body that is well suited for both positions. Currently, he projects best in the OF where he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.18 60 time. Feet are active and aggressive in tracking down balls in the OF but needs to work on taking better routes and angles to work in getting behind balls. Defensive abilities are slightly above average. Arm strength is slightly above average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raise velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities are solid average with slightly above average power. He shows rhythm with a quiet load. Hands are quick and short to the baseball, creating a compact swing. Power numbers will improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing and increase overall body strength. On the mound, abilities are below average to average and would like to see him concentrate his work in the OF and at the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Waller has the makings to be a solid everyday player at the collegiate level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
