Official Scouting Report

07/22/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Jackie is an athletic and talented 2023 2-way prospect that was very coachable and made several adjustments throughout the week at Pirate City. At 1B, Jackie is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and fields the ball in front of his body. He communicates well on pop ups, has proper footwork on relays, and works well off the ball. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, Jackie starts in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and stays balanced through contact. He has a solid 2 strike approach and barrels the ball consistently. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and create backside rotation. On the bump, Jackie gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends thru his delivery. He has good direction and works north to south. He sits 69-71 with his fastball but needs to be more consistent down in the zone. He throws a 10-4 breaking ball but occasionally cuts himself off. Keeping a strong front side will allow him to be more consistent down in the zone. Jackie is a hard worker and will continue to improve with experience. We hope to see his progress in the future.

07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Jackie continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works to square ball up and makes the routine plays. He displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact through line drive approach. At the event, he was 4 for 5. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

06/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 12-14) Jackie is a coachable 1B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series. In the field, Jackie shows fluid footwork and is very agile ranging to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He shows a clean exchange and makes accurate throws with good carry through his target. Jackie can improve defensively by playing through the ball more. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to hard contact and gap to gap pop. Jackie can improve as a hitter by getting his hands loaded consistently. On the mound, Jackie shows a polished delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm action and stays inline towards the plate. Jackie shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph with tailing action. Breaking ball ranges from 60-62mph with 10-4 break. Change sits at 60mph as he throws with fastball arm speed. Jackie can improve as a pitcher by extending through on his release. With five more years to develop, Jackie has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/07/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Silicon Valley, CA Jackie is a young, 2-way player with good skills. At 1B, Jackie has fluid/active feet, he moves well to the glove side, and has good feel around the bag. He keeps the ball in front, has a clean exchange, and throws with a long arm action and accuracy to his target. On the mound, Jackie has a clean arm action, he keeps his eyes on target, and separates on time. He has good hip action, lands in a controlled position, and his CB shows very well. Offensively, Jackie has an athletic set-up, he swings in good rhythm, and stands in well balanced. He has fast bat speed, makes square contact, and can work the ball gap to gap. Jackie can improve overall abilities with work on the following.

1. Glove extension
2. Exchange

1. More lower 1/2
2. Finish
3. Extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
