08/01/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Lancaster continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. His foot speed has really improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.0. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. His hands are soft / clean as he consistently shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he shows an athletic stance with rhythm. His hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he topped out at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with arm side run / sink. Breaking ball is a quality pitch, displaying 12/6 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup that has slight run. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is solid as he has an upside and has a strong understanding of the game.

03/18/2012 - College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Jackson is an athletic two-way player that will graduate in 2014. At the plate, he shows a square stance, solid load and short stride to the ball. He exhibits good bat speed making consistent contact and he gets the most out of his lower half. He has good hand separation showing good ability to stay inside the baseball and drive the ball to both gaps. He needs to let the ball travel better on the outer half. At first base, he shows sure hands, active feet to the ball and fields in the proper form. He has good base awareness, good arm action to throw but he needs to square up to his target to throw to develop more accuracy. On the mound, he shows a good arm circle with extension out front getting some movement to his fastball. He also throws a solid curveball that has sharp movement and command along with a changeup showing good arm speed. He is a polished pitcher that will continue to develop with more experience. Jackson is a solid all-around player that should be on coaches follow list.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
