Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

11/15/2020 - All-In Membership - Germantown (Memphis), TN Jackson is a young (2025 grad), projectable 2-way player as a 1B/LHP who excels at the plate. Offensively, this lefty stands in with a crouched setup and centered balance. He gets good weight transfer on his load, jumps on pitches he likes and squares the ball up hitting line-drives. Relaxing/loosening his grip will allow for more bat whip and increased pop off of the barrel. At 1B, he displays active prep as he comes to get the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. Working to present his glove and field the ball more out in front will help to avoid getting the in-between hop. On the mound, this LHP throws a FB & CB from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and drives downhill toward the dish. FB ranges from 67-68 mph as he throws it for strikes consistently. Breaking ball has 9/3 shape as he drops down and tends to get on the side of it. Working to finishing with more extension on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness on both pitches. Only a 2025 grad - Welch has tools with still a ton of time to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
