06/16/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.87 runner. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground and makes the routine plays. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Jacob.

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Jacob is a tall, lean OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot is speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.90. At the plate is where he shows best as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes/angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls playing through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for the pitch with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 3 years to further develop, Jacob has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
