Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 4 for 5. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a very hard worker. He plays the game hard and could develop into a potential 2 way college player.

11/05/2017 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Jacob is a two way LHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Jacob shows quick, fluid footwork and is very agile tracking down fly balls. He gets into a low, athletic position and fields ground balls out in front of his body. He has a quick, clean exchange and keeps his throws consistently accurate to his target. Jacob can improve defensively by working to get more backspin carry on his throws. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He comes through the zone well with his lower half and drives the ball to the opposite field. Jacob can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Jacob shows a clean delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm action, extending through on his release and finishing square to his target. Jacob has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with arm side tail. Breaking ball sits from 55-56mph with late 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 65-66mph. Jacob can improve as a pitcher by working directly towards the plate on his off speed pitches. Overall, Jacob is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
