12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 4 for 5. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a very hard worker. He plays the game hard and could develop into a potential 2 way college player.
