Official Scouting Report

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Jacob is a strong and athletic 2020 2-way prospect that worked hard all weekend. At 1B, Jacob is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and works behind the ball. He works off the bag well and makes accurate throws on double plays. Improving his first step and anticipating the ball off the bat will increate his range. At the plate, Jacob starts in a tall and open stance. He barrels the ball consistently, he has a middle approach, and hunts the fastball. He needs to continue to create backside drive with his lower half, attack the inside part of the ball, and get extension through contact. On the bump, Jacob has confidence in his pitches and attacks the strike zone. He separates on time, has a clean arm stroke, and stays directional toward the plate. Continuing to find a balance point over the backside and working north to south in his delivery will allow him to work over the front side more consistently. Jacob is a team player and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/11/2018 - College PREP - Davie, FL Jacob is a strong LHP prospect who will gradaute in 2020. On the mound, Jacob separates his hands on time in his motion and works inline towards the plate. He shows a controlled landing and works to keep his pitches around the zone. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph with slight movement. Breaking ball sits from 53-63mph with 12-6 break. Changeup sits from 58-61mph. Jacob can improve as a pitcher by gathering to a balance point over the rubber. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He drives through well with his lower half and takes a direct swing to the ball, leading to solid contact to all fields. Working a smoother rhythm into his load can help Jacob improve as a hitter. Overall, Jacob is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
