10/16/2019 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Jacob continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities are now solid skills as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with zip (90 mph velocity) across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting abilities are now well above average with outstanding power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 3 for 8 with a 2B and 2 RBI. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 85 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Jacob has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Jacob is an athletic 3B/RHP prospect who showcased his skills at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. In the field, Jacob shows efficient footwork and gets into a square position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and makes a two-handed exchange. He gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a soft stride. He gets his hands activated on time and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a compact swing with good extension and fast bat speed, leading to line drives and solid gap to gap pop. On the mound, Jacob starts with a simple rock step and gathers over the rubber. He separates his hands on time and stays inline towards the plate. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with tailing acton. Breaking ball sits from 59-63mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 66-67mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. With four more years to develop, Jacob has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/29/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Indianapolis, IN Jacob is a tall 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. In the field, Jacob shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He shows a smooth rhythm and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed which leads to solid contact and gap to gap pop. On the mound, Jacob gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a free, clean arm and extends through on his release. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 59-60mph with 11-5 break. Change-up sits from 62-66mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
