Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect. He was very coachable and worked hard all week. At 2B, Jacob is on time with his prep step and has a good first step to the ball. He is sure handed and makes the routine play. He needs to continue to plays through his backhand and create more efficient angles side to side. At the plate, Jacob is a contact hitter that looks for the ball middle-out and looks to go the other way. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, stay compact throughout the swing, and create backside drive to generate more power in his swing. On the bump he has good run on his fastball but needs to throw his breaking ball down in the zone more consistently. He finds a consistent balance point, separates on time, and works downhill. Jacob was a good teammate and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/10/2019 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Jacob is a tall 2B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2021. In the field, Jacob shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws consistent with carry through his target. Removing his glove pat can help Jacob improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance with center balance. He takes a level swing and produces solid line drives. Jacob can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Jacob keeps his eyes on target and separates his hands on time. He extends through his release and finishes with a controlled landing. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph. Breaking ball sits from 58-60mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 65-67mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Jacob improve as a pitcher. With two more years to develop, Jacob has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
