Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

10/27/2013 - College PREP - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Clay showed on the mound plus at SS for the first time at the event. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. At the plate is where Jacob shows best. He is a switch hitter that is better from the left side. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through ha level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. From the right side, he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. At SS, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls, play through and present hands more out front. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph. Changeup is his best off speed pitch showing well above average as he maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Jacob continues to progress in his game. On the bump, he works to a tall balance point and drives off the rubber with his lower 1/2. He shows good tempo, working at his pace and controlling the game. He fills up the zone throwing strikes with all of his pitches. He finishes out over his front side and in an athletic fielding position. Offensively, he shows some power with the ability to use the whole field. In the OF, he shows good pre-pitch movements and a quick first step to get himself into a good fielding position.

06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Jacob is a solid RHP/OF that will graduate in 2014. Currently, he projects better on the mound for the next level. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his quick arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 71-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is a plus as throws strikes with all his pitches and changes speeds well. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work on getting behind balls more, play through with momentum to his target and improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a tall, balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. For hitting grade to continue to improve, he needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. At the event, he was 3 for 10 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and very coachable. Jacob has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
