03/27/2022 - All-In Membership - Sacramento, CA Jacob is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. In the field, Jacob shows active footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He gets into a square position and fields with a firm glove. His exchange is clean and he makes on-line throws to his target. At the plate, this RHH shows an advanced approach through an athletic setup. He leads well with his lower half and works through a level swing with fast bat speed, driving the ball from gap to gap with authority. On the mound, Jacob gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a free arm and keeps his pitches around the zone. Jacob operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 82mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 72-74mph with late 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 71-73mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Jacob is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

09/26/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Union City, CA Jacob continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. At the plate, hitting abilities are now outstanding through a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. At SS, he takes a quick first step and has plus lateral range. He creates angles around the GB with fluid actions. DP turns are quick with zip (83 mph velocity) on his throws. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches.

11/22/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Jacob improved his foot speed at the event as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.20 runner. At SS, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-75 mph. Slider displays 11/5 shape with downward break. He maintains arm speed on his splitter with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/16/2020 - Pathway AZ Upperclass - 18U Jacob continues shine on the diamond. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/01/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Sacramento, CA Jacob continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Defensively at SS, he displays fluid / smooth actions. He shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Exchange is clean with strong throws. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped (82 mph exit velocity) through the zone through a solid line drive approach. On the bump, fastball showed a range of 73-78 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight tail. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/23/2019 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/17/2019 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jacob is an athletic and talented 2022 2-way prospect that plays the game hard. At SS, Jacob has good actions to the ball, he has a clean exchange, and gets his feet into a good throwing position. He needs to continue to present a low/early glove, and field the ball in front of his body. He makes strong throws to the bases and has good footwork on double plays. At the plate, Jacob starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside drive with his lower half. His quiet approach helps him to keep the barrel on plane to the ball. He needs to continue to get his front foot down on time to balance and hunt the fastball early. On the bump, Jacob gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and gets to balance in his delivery. He works north to south and finish over his front knee. He pounds the bottom part of the strike zone with his fastball and uses his breaking pitch as an out pitch. Jacob has made great progress since Omaha and we hope see it continue into the fall.

06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob is an athletic and talented 2022 2-way prospect. At SS, Jacob has a high baseball IQ and is always looking for the secondary play. He presents a low/early glove and works from the ground up. He has a clean exchange and makes the routine play. He needs to be more consistent with his prep step and overall range to the ball. At the plate, Jacob start in an open stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. His hips/ hands work well and he looks to drive the ball gap to gap. Continuing to shorten up his swing and stride will help him to be on time for the fastball. On the bump, Jacob works downhill and has good rhythm in his delivery. He tries to ride his back leg to the plate but needs to be more consistent staying straight in his stride and working over his front side. Jacob will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/17/2019 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Jacob is a tall, lean RHP/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He moves well laterally, displaying range and soft / sure hands. At the plate he continues to shine through a tall setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-76 mph on a downhill plane with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. He slows arm speed on his changeup tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is solid as throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Jacob has the makings of a special type player as he continues to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
