05/17/2015 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Jacob showed strengths to his game in his most recent Factory outing. Offensively, he got to his hitting position on-time with activated hands. He let the ball travel and had strong barrel accuracy, hitting with pop. His hands and hips were coordinated and he got extended out in front. Defensively, he was on-time to field and soft with the glove. He had a clean exchange and worked to the target on double plays. In all - Jacob continues to show progression and with another year to develop should be looking to jump in at the next level in the fall of 2016.

12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Crochet continues to show steady play in the baseball abilities and shows great baseball knowledge / instincts on the field. At 2B, he moves well laterally, flashing range as he takes proper first step. He works around balls and displays clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more, playing through while presenting hands more out front and increases foot quickness. At the plate, hands work inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. Swing path is level and he makes consistent contact as he shows a solid feel for the barrel. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. At the event, he was 3 for 9 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable.

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Jacob is a hard working player that showed an ability to make adjustments and improve at the Omaha National World Series. Defensively, he had a good setup, and was sure handed to field. He had quick feet around the bag and moved well for a second basemen. He made all the routine plays and used the proper footwork to throw. Loosening his overall actions and increasing arm strength are crucial for next level play. Offensively, he was direct with the barrel and balanced through the swing path. His next step in development is to implement more rhythm and a repeatable load to get himself to a hitting position with greater timing. Overall - Crochet is a nice player that respects his teammates and coaches and has a chance to play well at the next level.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Crochet continues to show a ton of improvement in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.50 runner. Defensive grades have really improved, now showing slightly above average abilities. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in his lateral movement, displaying range in the MIF. Hands are soft / clean / sure as he makes the plays and he presents well out front. Defensive grade will continue to improve, as he works to play through balls more. Throws are accurate but he will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grades have really improved as well through an open / athletic setup. Hands are quick / flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He loads well and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 6. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable showing good instincts in the game.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Vero Beach (Ages 14-18) Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing average hitting / power grades through an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with hitting grades continuing to improve as he learns to get his stride foot down on time and stays closed. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 2 for 9. Once on bases, he is aggressive and shows good instincts, taking the extra base. At 2B, he works to square balls up but needs to play through more while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable, willing to make adjustments.

05/12/2013 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Jacob his a young 2B who has the build of a MIF. As a right-handed hitter, he displays an open setup and short stride while maintaining good balance throughout his swing. He is short and quick to the ball as he shows some pull-side pop. Creating better rhythm will help him to get into a loaded position early and will result in improve consistency at the plate. Defensively at 2B, Crochet maintains active footwork and displays some decent range. He makes the backhand play smoothly and has a clean transfer. Getting on a long-toss program will help to increase arm strength and benefit him as he matures. As a 2016 graduate, Jacob has time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
