01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Cruce continues to impress on the diamond. With the bat, this lefty shows an athletic setup with fluid rhythm. He delivers the barrel with whip to and through the zone creating extension through his finish. The ball explodes off of his barrel as he utilizes the entire field. Behind the dish, Jacob has quick actions, getting around and centering the ball off of his chest. He puts his throws on a line right on the bag consistently. A LHH backstop is a hot commodity that any coach would love to write in the lineup. Jacob is exciting to watch and will play at a high level.

10/24/2014 - 2014 Under Armour So Cal Classic Upperclass Participant Tall, lean bodied catcher who is still fairly raw delivery, with good arm strength and a range of 2.02-2.15 pop times. Flashes gap pop from the left side of the plate. Developing barrel accuracy

10/22/2014 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jacob continues to be an exciting player to watch. Behind the dish, he brings game awareness that is hard to teach. He puts his athleticism on display, getting around pitches in the dirt and deadening them in front off of his chest. Runners will not want to test his arm as pop times continue to be very impressive. With the bat, Jacob has an aggressive approach and is looking to take a hack when he steps into the box. He hits the ball where it's pitched and has pop to all parts of the field. Pitch on the inner 1/2 will get crushed as he can pull the ball out of the ballpark. A LH swinging catcher with an all-around plus skill-set is one who will garner the college coaches attention.

03/23/2014 - College PREP - Union City, CA Jacob is an exciting prospect behind the dish. Runners will not want to test his arm as he has a clean/quick exchange and very strong arm, getting the ball down to 2B in 1.89. Quick footwork and plus athletic actions allow him to work around pitches in the dirt and center them off of his chest. With the bat, this LH swinger gets back into a loaded position and waits for his pitch. He drives the barrel to and through the zone with plus bat speed, resulting in pop to all fields. At 3B, Jacob presents his glove and works through it with fluid actions. He moves well laterally and can make the tough backhand play down the line look easy. A very talented 2016 grad to keep an eye on.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
