Official Scouting Report

  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

10/02/2019 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 83-84 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/14/2019 - College PREP - Modesto, CA Jacob is a tall, athletic, OF with very good skills. Defensively, Jacob has quick feet, a presentable glove, and a good 1st step to the ball. He tracks well, fields athletically, and plays through with a strong/accurate arm to his cut off man. Offensively, Jacob has a square set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes hard/consistent contact, the ball jumps off of his bat, and he uses his lower body. A sooner stride, and better finish will help solid hitting get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
