01/07/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (AZ) Jacob continues to showcase his baseball abilities at the Preseason All American event. He did show as a catcher for the first time at the event. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off a soft chest. Pop times showed in the 2.27 range with accuracy / carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Offensively, he continues to shine through a tall setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation through a balanced approach. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently, working to be on time. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball shows arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup arm side run. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/16/2021 - Pathway AZ Upperclass - 18U Jacob is a coachable OF/RHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Pathway tournament. In the field, Jacob shows active footwork with a quick first step. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is quick and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He gets his hands activated on time and remains centered in his lower half. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and produces loud contact to his pull side. On the mound, Jacob gathers over the rubber and is fluid separating his hands. He works with a loose arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing with a controlled landing. Jacob operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 62-64mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 66-67mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Jacob is a talented prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

06/30/2021 - All-In Membership - San Bernardino, CA Jacob is a SS/RHP prospect in the class of 2023. He shows off good athleticism and strength throughout his initial testing. In the field, he uses active feet to help create range for him self. Fields from an athletic position and does a good job securing the baseball throughout the transfer process. Has a short arm action with a high ¾ arm slot. Throws are on line and accurate across the infield. At the plate, he shows a level bat path and extension through the baseball helping him create square contact. Does a good job of utilizing the whole field and working gap-to-gap. On the mound, he delivers all pitches from a ¾ arm slot. Does a good job of showing clean mechanics with good direction towards the plate. Consistently gets on top of the baseball and works downhill. Curveball is his best pitch, was 61-64 MPH and showed good depth. Fastball was up to 76 MPH. Could see great improvements on the mound with added arm strength. Jacob is a well-rounded player with 2 years to continue to develop before entering college.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
