01/19/2009 - College PREP - Loch Sheldrake, NY Jacob is a two way player as a catcher and in the OF with a short, athletic looking body that shows projection as it continues to physically mature. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time and he utilizes his feet well through his defensive play. Defensive abilities in the outfield are solid average as he takes proper routes and angles to track down balls in the OF. Behind the plate is where Depietro shows best, displaying above average arm strength displaying life and carry on throws. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. He will control the running game with his feet and arm as indicated by his low 2.08 pop time. He is a solid receiver and blocker with room to continue to grow. At the plate, Jacob has slightly above average ability with average power. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential. Hitting grades and power numbers will improve quickly with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. Depietro will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his defensive abilities behind the plate and has the makings to become a solid player.
