12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2
Jacob was a studious hitter that was not afraid to ask questions at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. Offensively, he had an easy load, strong top hand, and lower half rotation which resulted in the ability to make the ball jump off the bat. Becoming more selective to offer at better pitches and allowing the ball to travel will increase hard contact. In the field, he had a good approach and took good angles which allowed him to pick out a hop. He displayed feel to play through the ball - resulting in strong accurate throws. Development of speed and quickness would allow him to get to more than just routine plays. Overall - Jacob definitely has the potential to develop offensively and defensively for next level play.
09/07/2014 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN
Jacob is a lean, athletic RHP/OF that will graduate in 2016. Currently, he projects slightly better in the OF for the next level but has an upside on the mound. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an athletic / squared approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.47 60 time. In the OF, he utilizes his aggressive / athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles to track balls down. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches as he continues to improve. Control is a solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, Jacob has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve, possibly as a two-way guy.
