05/24/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Salem, OR Jacob is a tall 1B/LHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At 1B, Jacob shows active footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and great pull side power. On the mound, Jacob gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and controls his pitches well. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 83mph with good movement. Breaking ball sits from 68-73mph with 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 73-74mph with good cutting action. Overall, Jacob is a talented prospect who will be one to follow as he continues to progress.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob continues to show as a top prospect at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Feet / hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, power potential is tremendous through a tall setup. Hands are quick (101 mph exit velocity), generating bat speed through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, this righty has a 3 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Fastball showed a range of 74-78 mph with sinking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Cutter is harder with sink. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
